Meet Yuki: The First Top Dog at Carnes Crossroads

April 13th, 2017

We are thrilled to announce the first winner of our 2017 Dogs of Carnes Crossroads photo contest. After collecting submissions of dogs doing what they love best around the community during the first three months of the year we posted the finalists on our Facebook page for voting. Six-year-old Siberian Huskie Yuki got the most likes and is officially the first quarter “top dog” at Carnes Crossroads!

It’s clear Yuki loves her new community, but we caught up with her owner (and Carnes Crossroads Zumba Fitness Instructor) Ryoko to learn more.

How did Yuki come to join your family?

Almost four years ago, in June 2013, my husband Jeremy and I were heading to the movies to see Star Trek. We had time to kill, so we stopped by a pet store on adoption day. The moment we met her, we both felt something special. So, we gave up the movie and took her home. As is our family tradition, girls have Japanese names; we gave her the name “Yuki” for the young Siberian Husky girl, which means “snow” in Japanese.

When did Yuki become a member of the Carnes Crossroads Community?

We recently joined the Carnes Crossroads community in February 2017.

What are Yuki’s favorite ways to spend time at Carnes Crossroads?

Yuki’s favorite activities are walking the beautiful trails and sidewalks, visiting the dog park and most of all, meeting the dog-friendly neighbors!

What is Yuki’s favorite game, toy or treat?

Yuki loves homemade carrot cookies and beef bone marrows as a treat. We bake the cookies for her…so spoiled! They are easy to make.

Yuki’s favorite toy? Cats! She hangs out with three cats everyday.

Tell us more about your photo submission.

This photo was taken for her sixth birthday. We had stopped to watch the water fountain on the Village Green in St. Thomas Park, an activity that has become part of her everyday routine.

What’s the best tip you can give to others when submitting their photos for the Dogs of Carnes Crossroads Photo Contest?

Include a symbolic item or view of the neighborhood in your picture, because we (and the voters) LOVE Carnes Crossroads!

How will Yuki celebrate being selected this season’s Dog of Carnes Crossroads?

We will take her on an extra walk and treats for her to celebrate her win! Oh, and she may sing a song to celebrate herself! She sings when she is happy!
