A Season of Giving at Carnes Crossroads

December 17th, 2020

It’s been a tough year for many, so our community is marking this holiday season by assisting those in need in a number of joyful ways.

The holidays got off to a running start on Thanksgiving Day, with the second annual Huffin’ for the Stuffin’ 5K at Carnes Crossroads. In addition to being a festive start to turkey day, the event raised $10,000 for Palmetto Paws and the City of Goose Creek’s “Shop With A Badge” program. We are proud to be the host sponsor of this holiday event.

Carnes residents really got into the holiday spirit in early December, providing gifts for approximately two dozen children who might not otherwise have experienced the magic of the holidays. This year’s Carnes Crossroads Angel Tree initiative was spearheaded by the staffs at the Carnes Crossroads Information Center and Property Owners’ Association and made possible by the generous residents who purchased gifts for the children in need on our Angel Tree. This is the second year the Carnes Crossroads community has coordinated an Angel Tree. It’s a wonderful way to help ensure that more of our extended neighbors have the opportunity to experience joy during the holidays.

Also this month, the POA team presented checks from the Carnes Crossroads Community Fund to two non-profit organizations that provide important services to our neighbors in need in Berkeley County.

A $2,500 donation was made to Helping Hands of Goose Creek, an emergency assistance center and food pantry serving individuals and families who are experiencing a life crisis situation. The Carnes community has a long history of supporting Helping Hands through food drives and fundraising assistance, and we’re happy to able to continue to provide assistance through the Carnes Crossroads Community Fund.

Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County provides homeownership opportunities for individuals and families who would not be able to purchase a home via traditional funding avenues. A $2,500 contribution from the Carnes Crossroads Community Fund will contribute to the organization’s initiatives in our area.
